Shaker Textile History
The Shakers were a group of British Quakers, lead by Mother
Ann Lee, who immigrated to the United States in 1774 seeking religious
freedom. They lived in farming communities, practicing a religion that was
a life style of dedication to God, and simple self-sufficiency from the
land.
The Shakers are known for their distinctive architecture, crafts and furniture.
