By the 1980s the Shaker communities ceased to exist. The Shakers had a
profound impact on the arts and aesthetics of North America.
The Shaker commitment to utility of function, simple crispness of design, superb technique and excellence in craftsmanship are part of their legacy.
Many of the former Shaker Communities are operating today as living museums.
