Shaker History - Industrial Revolution
The Shakers adapted the technological advances brought to textile manufacturing during the Industrial Revolution.
Water powered spinners and looms became part of their mill-produced cloth.
As cloth became cheaper to purchase ready made, the Shakers slowly began to abandon large scale weaving manufacturing.
However the skills of the home hand-weaver continued as part of the Shaker lifestyle.
