Shaker Textile History - Industrial Revolution
The Shakers adapted the technological advances brought to textile
manufacturing during the Industrial Revolution. Water powered spinners
and looms became part of their mill-produced cloth.
As cloth became cheaper to purchase ready made, the Shakers slowly began
to abandon large scale weaving manufacturing. However the skills of the home
hand-weaver continued as part of the Shaker lifestyle. MORE!
