Inlay

The bold and colourful designs characteristic of Guatemalan cloth are woven using an inlay technique. The inlay technique requires the weaver to place a pattern thread into the warp on top of the background cloth. The design is built up, row by row, by placing the pattern thread in the desired location. Figures and geometric designs are popular in Guatemalan cloth. [SB] {AL}
