The Tie-up and Treadling work together as a unit. The Tie-up Graph is the small square at the top right of the picture. Each horizontal row represents one harness on the loom. This draft is for a 4-harness loom. Each vertical column in the Tie-up Graph represents a treadle on the loom. Reading the graph left to right, the first column tells the weaver to tie harnesses 1 and 2 to the first treadle. The second column tells the weaver to tie harnesses 2 and 3 to the second treadle. The third column tells the weaver to tie harnesses 3 and 4 to the third treadle. The fourth column tells the weaver to tie harnesses 1 and 4 to the fourth treadle. The Treadling Order is shown in the long graph running down the right side of the picture. The Weft (vertical) yarn colours are shown in the weft colour guide to the right of the graph. This draft uses green but any colours can be used. The vertical columns in the treadling graph represent the treadles on the loom. Reading the graph left to right, the first column is for treadle #1, the second column is for treadle #2, the third column is for treadle #3 and the fourth column is for treadle #4. Each row of the treadling graph equals one pass of the weft yarn. Reading the graph from the top to the bottom tells the weaver which treadle to use with each pass of the weft yarn.
