MULTI-HARNESS LOOM There are many varieties of floor and table harness looms. The harness loom is a machine designed to hold warp threads in place for weaving. Harnesses are rectangular frames, which hold the heddles. A heddle is a long needle with a loop at each end and an opening or eye in the middle. The loop at the top and bottom of the heddle slides on the the horizontal bars of the frames. The warp yarn is threaded through the reed. The reed is a comb like device that spaces the warp ends across the width of the cloth. The warp thread then passes through the eye of the heddle and the warp is tied securely on the loom. The frames are raised and lowered to produce an opening in the warp called the shed. The weft yarn is passed through the shed and beaten into place to produce cloth. The number of harnesses a loom has determines the complexity of the cloth a weaver can produce. [SB] {SB}
