Pastels
Two Dancers by Edgar Degas Pastels comes in two forms, chalk and oil. Chalk pastel is like a powdered stick while oil pastels have an oily residue. Oil pastels, the more common, has a fluid quality because of its wax base. This fluidity has qualitites of both drawing and painting. Once chalk or oil pastels have been applied to a surface they need to be spayed with a fixative to prevent smudging. This oil pastel painting, Two Dancers, is by Degas. [MH] {NR}
