JULIUS CEASAR Some portraits were idealized to reassure the public by giving the emperors the godlike appearance associated with power and control. This practice became popular during the rule of Augustus 27BC-AD14. These portraits were more like character studies then realistic portraits and attributed heroic qualities to the sitter. One such sculpture features Claudius as Jupiter. Claudius, the ruler with studdering problems and physical deformitites, is shown as the mighty god Jupiter. [MH] {NR}
