Ancient Greek Influence

Usually when a country is conquered they must adapt the culture of the conquering country. But when the Greeks were conquered by the Romans, the Romans were so taken by the Greek culture that Romans removed actual works of art from Greek towns. Most of the art came into Roman hands as booty from military campaigns, but some was purchased or commissioned. Although Romans who took Greek art altered it and added to it, they had very different intentions than the Greeks. [MH] {NR}
