In the mid-eighteenth century homes had a narrow range of household furnishings. Architects would most commonly make large pieces of furniture. In 1812 the French produced a book on interior decoration, which set the standard for their Empire's style. Their furniture was quite elaborate and not used on a regular basis. [RA] {HI}
Today using modern production methods and finishing techniques contemporary craft persons are working with metal, glass, plastics, leather, fibres, and wood to create furniture for offices, homes and public spaces. [MH] {NR}
