Enlarged Field Painting
Artists after World War II enlarged their canvases sometimes large enough to fill walls. Large works of art become part of the interior environment and draw the viewer into to the picture. Artists began leaving large parts of their canvas unpainted or left white to open up space in their work, creating a feeling of air or floating. Colour Field artists did not always plan every part of their paintings. Sometimes they allowed accidental happenings to occur. [MH] {GB}
