Oils
Oil colours are created by mixing pigments with linseed or poppy oils.
The paint is thinned with turpentine to the desired consistency and takes
longer to dry then tempera.
Thick buttery layers are called impasto and
thin washes similar to water colour are called glazes.
Oil is good for
working on larger surfaces with larger brushes.
Because it does not dry
fast it is easy to make corrections.
If thick impasto layers are used it
can take years to completely dry.
