Typical Rococo

In Jean-Antoine Watteau's "Garden Party" typical roccoco elements are evident. The figure's finery and dress show that they are well-to-do. The soft pastel colours, soft lines, sensuous texture recreate the carefree lifestyle of the aristocrats as do the relaxed poses and smiling faces of the figures shown in gently erotic dreamlike leisure. The light mood and light hearted subject matter also justify the "giggling" metaphor. [MH] {NR}
