Patronage
Patronage of the arts (financing the artist and his work) shifted from the church alone to a balance of individual and religious support.
This change produced a new market for work that was not exclusively religious in nature-works such as individual portraits, landscape printings, and nude studies.
Artists often worked in more than one medium and studied Classical literature and the arts.
