INDEX NEXT UP LAST ATG Robert Rauschenberg Robert Rauschenberg

Factum I and Factum II (both 1957) by Robert Rauschenberg at the National Gallery of Art in 2022. Fair Use. Robert Rauschenberg, born 1925, mixed reality with abstraction making the viewer look at ordinary things in different context by attaching such things as license plates and tires to canvases. He pioneered this art as early as the mid-1950s. He has been said to be much like a composer who makes music out of the noises of everyday life. Instead Rauschenberg constructed works of art from the trash of urban society. His work has the traits of compactness and self-sufficiency, as well as ironic intent. [RA] {HI}
