van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh's paintings blazed with colour from the thick impasto paint he used.
He had the freedom to express his emotions, exaggerate the essential and leave the obvious vague.
He was committed to the visible world depending heavily upon the kingdom of light which acted as a creative force animating all forms of life.
It was felt that impressionism was too restrictive for a man such as van Gogh.
His work was filled with fields, peasants, intense yellows, greens and blues.
