Gauguin
Originating from Paris, France, Gauguin felt spiritually bankrupt by the industrial society.
Leaving his successful career as a stock broker and his family he travelled abroad.
Finally settling in Tahiti
he attained guidance from the primitives.
From there on in he painted earthly paradises in non-naturalistic colours.
He used black heavy outlines, flat simplified shapes and denied perspective as part of his paintings.
His art was inspired by folk art and medieval stained glass.
