Elvis Presley took an obscure, wrong-side-of-the-tracks approach to Black-American rhythm and blues. He gave it mass appeal - sex appeal. The musical groves and riffs, were then adopted by early 80's bands like RUN DMC, The Beastie Boys, the Fat Boys, and others, to which these artists added a running dialogue. The lyrics were spoken, in time to the beat and this expression ranging in topics from Adidas shoes to prostitutes was called rap. Later terms such as hip-hop and gansta-rap would determine different styles. [AW] {BM}
