Polyphonic Masses
The second type is known as polyphonic masses.
From the 12th to 15th Centuries, distinct from the Gregorian chants, these songs of the church had a musical setting for certain portions of the Mass (or often called the Proper).
Polyphonic means with several voice sounds at once.
