Chamber Music

Properly this means music to be performed in a house, distinct from music played in a hall, theatre, or church. But since the mid 1900s, vocal music or music for a single instrument is not classified as chamber music. What is defined as chamber is music for any 2 instruments, or trios, quartets, quintets, etc. The most important of all chamber music is that for the string quartet (2 violins, viola, and violoncello).
