William S. Burroughs
This author of "The Naked Lunch" would take text he had written and literally cut up the pages into fragments, and piece them back together in a random order.
This method allowed the writer to create a logical but ultimately disoriented and detached world of novels.
Burroughs applied the same technique to audio interviews, and TV recordings.
So, strangely enough it was a novelist who gave modern pop one of it's main stylistic signatures, the sampled dialogue snippet.
