William S. Burroughs
DEJEUNER SUR L'HERBE This author of "The Naked Lunch" would take text he had written and literally cut up the pages into fragments, and piece them back together in a random order. This method allowed the writer to create a logical but ultimately disoriented and detached world of novels. Burroughs applied the same technique to audio interviews, and TV recordings. So, strangely enough it was a novelist who gave modern pop one of it's main stylistic signatures, the sampled dialogue snippet. [AW] {NR}
