Woodwind
Different in lots of ways, woodwinds are simply pipes enclosing a central tube(called the bore), through which the player forces his breath in performance. There are three ways this happens. (1) player blows across the open mouthpiece of a flute or piccolo (2) activates a double reed by the breath as in an oboe, English horn, or bassoon, (3) or similarly forces a single reed to vibrate in a clarinet or saxophone.
