Big Brass
Trombones and trumpets have cylindrical tubes and consequently a stronger timbre
(pronounced "tamber") suitable for marches and climactic pieces of music.
Since the 19th Century all brasses (except the trombone) have been fitted with additional lengths of tubing (usually 3)
that permit more notes to be played.
Air is channelled through these valves by piston valves manipulated by the fingers.
