The 1980's
In the 60's there was a period when mostly British acts dominated the American stage.
This was known as the British invasion, and lasted a few years, but in 1983 the occurrence would happen again.
The hangover of disco from the late 70's could still be detected in much of the chart, as America had turned its nose up to British punk.
But a fresh new breed of stars emerged from the overseas island, and it was invasion time again.
These bands were Duran Duran, Human League, Dexy's, the Culture Club, and the Police.
