CHOPIN'S GRAVE IN FRANCE Although the music of Beethoven and Schubert is full of romance, most people recognize Weber (born 1786), Berlioz (b. 1803), Mendelssohn (b. 1809), Chopin (b. 1810), and Schumann (b. 1810), as the great Romantic composers. For example, Mendelssohn's Song Without Words is a reminder to us of the fact that composers were trying not merely to write beautiful music but to express something that, in itself, lies outside music-something that a poet or novelist might express in words or a painter in shapes and colours. Chopin's grave, seen here in this photograph, is in France. [AW] {NR}
