Time Signatures

When a writer of music is going to create he must decide if he wants the accent to come on the second or third beat of every bar. If he wants it to come on every second one, he puts at the beginning of the piece some time signature. These what appear to be division problems are time signatures and ironically they also divide. The number on the top indicates the number of beats or pulses in a bar, the bottom number shows what type of note gets the accent. [AW] {JO}
