George Gershwin

George Gershwin was born in New York City in 1898 and as many must do in New York, he made it the hard way. Starting in a very low position at "Tin Pan Alley"( a cluster of Metropolitan publishing houses) as a song plugger he eventually progressed to creating melodies of his own. Soon he was writing for Broadway shows like, Lady be Good, Strike up the Band, Girl Crazy, and Of Thee I Sing. MORE! [AW] {MI}
