INDEX NEXT UP LAST ATG Brahms Brahms

MUSICIANS Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg in 1833, his father a double-bass player in the Hamburg Theatre Orchestra. He had a good teacher when he was quite young, and at 20 Brahms went on tour with some gypsies and played in many German towns. At this time Schumann became aware of Brahms music, and wrote articles of praise in Brahms' honour. In the end, Schumann and his wife became a sort of musical parent source for the young composer. Brahms composed 4 symphonies, 2 piano concertos, and many songs and choral music. Buried with Beethoven and Schubert, Brahms died in 1897. [AW] {JO}
