Bach would go on to pursue employment at the Palace of the Prince, where he was leader of all the Royal choirs for six years. Altogether Bach wrote 5 complete sets of Cantatas, each set consisting of one cantata for each Sunday of the year. Many of the pieces have been lost but about 200 remain. Amid his choral works, the greatest of all is the Mass in B minor. At the end of his life he became blind - as his contemporary Handel did. Then a few days before he died his sight returned, but a paralytic stroke soon followed and so, aged 65, he passed away. [AW] {JO}
