Horror is defined as an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear. Horror stories can feature supernatural elements such as ghosts, witches, or vampires, or the can address more rational psychological fears. [RA] {EB} {BD}
It is a genre of writing in which the author's primary intention is to cause extreme nervousness, panic, fear, dread, depression or revulsion. Examples of horror novels are Misery by Steven King or Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. [AM] {CL}
