Fiction is derived from the Latin word fictio, which means the act of fashioning, or
moulding. It is writing that comes from the imagination of the writer. Fiction suggests a
story that is invented and fashioned either to entertain or to deceive.
Common types of literature in the fiction genre include
the novel and short story.
