Fantasy (also spelled phantasy) is imaginative fiction dependent for effect on strangeness of setting, such as other worlds or time periods, and of characters, such as supernatural or unnatural beings.
Fantasy is set in an imaginary world and features the magic of mythical beings.
Common characters in this genre include dragons, elves, ghosts, and magicians.
Fantasy is a common element in children's literature: J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, and C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe are all examples of children’s literature.
