Roman Theatre 2
In the 1st Century AD, the Romans again showed an interest in performing.
Mime and pantomime became popular.
A chorus would tell the story while others acted it out.
The standards had not risen however.
Sometimes, sexual acts or real executions were committed during a performance.
All Roman theatre came to an end when the Christians conquered Rome near the end of the 2nd Century.
In this photograph a Roman play is recreated by Nicol Williamson.
