By the early 15th Century Italy had discovered the dramatic arts, and been inspired by the Greek and Roman theatres.
But the creative talents of the Italians were stifled by the boundaries set by the theories of the old theatres.
The first Italian playwright to break away from these limitations was Ludovico Ariosto.
Changeable scenery was invented, as well as machines to move clouds and waves.
Five basic settings were established; heaven, hell, the sea, the countryside, and a city street.
These modern day dramatists are celebrating in Venice, Italy.
