Shaw's Works
SHAW FESTIVAL THEATRE Shaw's first play to make a good impression on the public was Arms and the Man, written in 1894. Later that year he wrote Candida, which was not perfomed until 1904. He wrote The Man of Destiny and You Never Can Tell in 1895; The next year he spent only a few short weeks writing The Devil's Disciple. In 1898, he wrote Caesar and Cleopatra. After this Shaw's career as a playwright improved steadily. The public was beginning to like his plays, and they were being performed more frequently. Shaw's works over the next fifteen years included: Man and Superman, How He Lied To Her Husband, The Doctor's Dilemma, and Pygmalion. Many of his plays were turned into films, and he was fascinated by the medium. He never stopped writing, and worked up until his death in 1950. He was ninety-four years old. This building in Niagara on the Lake, Canada, is the Shaw Festival Theater. [AL] {EB}
