One would enter a typical Roman Villa through a foyer called a Vestibulum then proceed through a corridor called the Fauces to the largest room of the house, the Atrium. The Atrium could be open air and contain an Impluvium or pool. From the Atrium pass by alcoves called Ala through a reception area called the Tablinium on to the garden called the Peristylum.
