Stonehenge
Stonehenge Several huge stone monuments have survived. Built on the site of two earlier constructions, Stonehenge, on the Salisbury Plain in England, is a round grouping of gigantic stones, constructed about 2000BC. Apparently a ritual site, Stonehenge was constructed to indicate the solstices and equinoxes of the calendar year which were the favoured times for planting, harvest and religious ceremonies.
